Homemaking

Our Southern Style Mississippi Home

May 04, 2021

Hello friends and thanks for the well wishes on this next segment of life!  Over the next few months I'll be sharing Summer recipes (with a Southern spin) and Homemaking tips as our journey in the South continues.

Sadie and I loaded up our Florida lives and arrived in Mississippi last Thursday around 4:00 p.m. Sadie and I were both happy to see the hubby and he was happy to see us too. Sadie jumped out of the vehicle and I crawled out ( I was stiff from 6 + hours of driving😂) Seriously though, at this stage of life I am just not going to take myself or life too serious. I am embracing change, it keeps me on my toes.  I am here and by golly I am going to make the most of it, I really just don't have the time to get old.

I am just going to share a few photos today. We really do love our new Southern Style home and I love the Kitchen most of all. Perhaps Dave does too, because he has been waiting for some cooking and baking from this gal. He has eaten a heap of pot pies while I was in Florida. He has been overseeing the building of our home here in Mississippi. I am going to deliver too-I have a hankering to do some cooking and baking and it's all going to start with a Coconut Cake!

As we all pretty much know styles come and go. So I am pretty tickled that brushed gold and champagne gold are back in style, while gold is not for everyone it is for me and I am happy to see it has returned. I love gold paired with white and gray paint too. You know that old saying- if you wait long enough everything comes back in style. So it is with Gold. One could say we are ushering in a New Golden Age of Home Décor!

Once we left our Texas property we also left behind double ovens...😐 For an avid baker such as myself this sort of tore me up inside. So you can imagine the happy dance I am doing these days!

It was important to me to have Bin Cup drawer handle pulls on the island. Just sort of gives my Kitchen that down-home country Southern Style feel.

These are heart of pine floors. I am loving them, but I know they are a softer wood than Oak so I am just gonna have to deal with scratches and dents.  But hopefully there won't be any for a few weeks!😏

With all of the new choices for fun floors I just had to add this tile to our Laundry room and powder bath. It is neutral enough to fit in with our décor.

You know what I am going to be doing right here on this Front porch don't you?
Yes indeed there is going to be some porch sitting, while I ponder what I am going to be making for supper, baking for dessert and of course, when are those seeds that I planted going to turn into blooms.

Thanks for joining me friends and I am wishing you a heap of happy Homemaking wherever you live!

XO
Jemma

  5. Jenna,

Those lights in your kitchen, stunning!! I

I have to say the good that's available now is more my style than before. That didn't clean well and hold up to every day use. The new looks like it will.

Your floors are going to look beautiful and lived in and I love that.

    Enjoy this next chapter.

    1. Hello Sweet Friend,
I totally agree with you! I have been waiting for this style all of my life. I don't really like a fussy look so this is right up our alley.
Thank for the reassurance on the heart of pine floors. I've worried about them-but my daughter said the same thing as you. That the heart of pine floors will be well worn and have character and that is certainly a good thing!

  7. Jemma, love your new home in Mississippi. Your kitchen is so charming, and I really
like the flooring in the laundry room. Not sure if you know this, but I moved up to the
mountains, and loving it. I've always wanted a front porch, and I have a spacious one,
and smiled when I saw yours. There's so much you can do with that. Now all I need is a white rocking chair to sit out there haha. Your pine floors are very nice, and I'm familiar with pine up here, as they grace my dining room walls. Enjoy and embrace your new home, Jemma, and I wish you well settling in. Your home really is charming
    in every way.
