DIY Snow Time|Embroidery

November 04, 2015
If you enjoy sewing projects, then this simple let it snow embroidery craft is calling your name.
I think you will really enjoy this one, it is a great craft you can have tucked away,
just in case
You know how there are those days, when you would like to have something to work on, or need something to whip up in a moments notice.
Simple supplies, and snow time can easily be made under two hours.

Perfect little hostess gift or perhaps a gift for a sweet friend, beloved teacher or just keep it for yourself.

I found this project in Holiday Crafts and tweaked it to my liking.

Have you ever had the chance to take a look at this magazine?
I think it is well worth the $5.99 and it is a special interest publication
of Better Homes and Gardens, so you know you are going to find at least a couple of
good crafts.
It also has ideas for wrapping Christmas gifts, tags and embellishments.
Most of the projects are easy to moderate in their difficulty level so there are several ideas that I would like to try with the grandchildren too.

Anyway, just wanted to share that with you all, now let's get on to our craft for today.

I eyeballed the photograph in the craft magazine and wrote let it snow in pencil,
then using my pencil I marked little dots where I was going to place my french knots.

Do you love a french knot as much as I do, they can be intimidating and troublesome to make, but so worth the time, and seriously even if they aren't perfect they are just so cute...smile.
I have included a You Tube Tutorial at the end of this post, where you will see some perfect and beautiful french knots.

Simple split stitches make for a quick embroidery project.

I have not embroidered for quite some time, so my stitches are far from perfect, and
the French knots are irregular, but since they are representing snowflakes,
it's all good.
Don't you just love a project that is really no fail.

Items For This Project

Directions For This Project

  •  Iron fabric before beginning.
  •  Cut fabric to fit embroidery hoop leaving about a 1/2 inch to hot glue to hoop
  •  after project is complete.
  •  Place fabric in hoop and tighten.
  •  Write let it snow  lightly in pencil on the fabric, as well as where French knots will be placed.
  •  Thread embroidery needle with all six strands of embroidery floss, if you want a chunky look,   which I  did.  For less bulk separate strands.
  •  Embroidery let it snow.
  •  French knots are up next, and below is the tutorial.
  •  After all embroidery is complete remove fabric from hoop, iron, put back in hoop.
  •  Secure tightly and hot glue the edges of the fabric to the underside of the hoop.

This is a DIY project that has so many possibilities.

Thank you for joining me today and have a great Wednesday!

Do you have any projects that you are working on this week?

  1. Dearest Jemma! Good morning! Once again, I want to thank you for the wonderful opportunity to have graced your blog page. Many a kind person came my way, and it was fun to share a very small bit of my life with you and your readers.

This is a GORGEOUS project, and beautifully photographed! I just got a few ideas yesterday on my way home from school for photo shoots, but I need the right objects. But your color scheme here is right up my alley! The coolness of blue and white together is on my mind for the holidays. Embroidery is very near to my heart, as my mother used to practice it always, so as a very young child, she showed me how to do it. UNFORTUNATELY however, I never had enough patience to sit and get good at it. She would lovingly scold me for my horrific work (especially the back which she felt was important to be just as tidy as the front!). I danced and did other artistic works on stage that were more suited to my need to MOVE! But I love the idea of stitching, but now that my eyes are starting to age, I must keep them clear so I can continue to read and write; who knew that a once hard-to-stay-still kid would end up yearning to sit and read and devour the world of poetry?

BEAUTIFUL and very inspirational project my friend!

  5. Jemma, this embroidery of "Let It Snow" is wonderful. I have always loved this saying, maybe because I don't get to see the snow much here where I live. You did a great job on this, the blue colors are just right. I don't have much blue décor for Christmas, but I sure love to look at it. Blue and silver or blue and white, it's so lovely. I've seen the Holiday Crafts magazine, and now I will have to pick up a copy. Thanks for sharing, Jemma.

  16. Jemma,

You know from Instagram that I love this. And embroidery is one thing I can do! lol! French knots are something that once you learn how to do---practice makes perfect. I'd like to minimize this and make a few ornaments for the tree. Thank you!!!
