Christmas Decorating Ideas

November 27, 2016
I seem to be in a spot in life where the faster I go, the further behind I get.
I visit my sweet friends blogs and then I leave before I comment, I could blame it on many things, but the fact is I am spinning my wheels.
However there is some great news mixed in with my muddled state of mind and that is we have a Merry Christmas Art Giveaway from Darren Gygi today along with 5 easy tips on decorating.

Our Giveaway is the snow-sled print, I think it's neutral appearance will fit in with any decor.
It would be super cute in the Kitchen too.
Just leave a little Howdy in the comment section and you will be entered.
Drawing and announcement of winner will be on Thursday December 1, 2016.

I have combined the snow-sled print with Mr. and Mrs. Claus to create a vintage Norman Rockwell type of Christmas theme in our Family room.
Then I  added this "Be good for goodness sake" sign which my crafty Texas daughter made me one year.

Sometimes decorating for Christmas can be overwhelming, you know how you start going through those plastic bins and all of a sudden everything sort of jumps out at you.

These tips are not just for Holiday decorating, they apply to year around decorating too.
Decorating Tips

Tip One. Buy what you love.
Long before I knew that this was a tip, I always wanted my home to be a reflection of what had meaning to me. I didn't want just a bunch of "stuff," to fill up my home.

"If you love something, it will work. That's the only real rule." ~Bunny Williams

Tip Two. Create vignettes.
Group art, objects, books etc...these items all gathered together give the eye a place to stop and relax for awhile.

Tip Three. Make it yours.
As you can tell from this photo I adore snow-people. I have collected them for years and years. On this particular bookshelf I am showcasing a small portion of my collection.
If you have special collections share them.

Tip Four. Stand back and take a photo.
Then edit. As I look at some of these photos I can see I need to do more editing.

Tip Five. Add green.
By adding plants to your home it will feel fresher, lighter and brighter.

I turned on Christmas music and listened to Frank Sinatra croon out some Holiday
melodies, lit a few candles, sipped on sparkling water and before I knew it the tree was trimmed.
My snowmen collection was unpacked, Mr. and Mrs. Santa were tucked on our bookshelves and the little sled print was sitting cozy between some friendly snow people.

Oh, I wanted to mention that this past week Samantha and the girls and I went to the Galleria in Dallas and we picked out the finest smelling candle from White Barn.
It is Mahogany Teakwood, I highly recommend it.

  5. Jemma, your Norman Rockwell theme is delightful in the family room. Love Mrs. Claus. :) That little snowman with the red plaid scarf is adorable. Can I ask where you got him from? I'm really into red plaid lately; maybe because I've been seeing a lot of it. That is such a cute sign that your daughter made. These are really good tips, Jemma, and I love "make it yours." You definitely put a stamp that says Jemma in your wonderful decorating, and I enjoy seeing all your holiday stuff.

  9. Good morning dearest Jemma! YES, I do agree that if you love it, it will work. I know that my simplicity is not what someone else would like, but I LOVE IT. We make the memories with the art of our arranging and the little mementos we collect. Your snow people remind me of the ones my mother used to make.....ah....
