Inspirational Thursday- Sunshine Yellow

May 29, 2013
I have always been a fan of yellow.  In recent years I have moved

away from using much of this warm, welcoming color to our home

and I am missing the cheer it brings to any room.

So, I am wondering just what is the best way to bring this

delightful color back into our home?

Should I paint one of my chest of drawers yellow?

Or should I recover an old wing back chair with a friendly

yellow fabric?

Should yellow be on my walls,

A lamp,

A throw...

So, what do you think?

How should I begin to bring yellow back into our home?

  1. We have a tiny cottage so the entire house is the same color to make it seem larger. It is coated in Benjamin Moore Provence - a creamy yellow. I love it as a background for my other primary colors.

  2. Hi Jemma...Oh, I think the light yellow dresser'd be perfect. Pops of yellow definitely add zip to a room. Good luck and show us what you decide. Susan

  4. Have you seen the peacock colors at Pier 1? Turquoise and yellow and purple. Maybe a visit to their website would give you some inspiration. :)

  5. I think it's nice to add bright colors with linens and throw pillows. I had a bright yellow bathroom one time though and used bright blue towels and shower curtain and it was beautiful...so cheery!

  7. I have yellow stripes in one of the bathrooms and even though it's been like that awhile, I can't seem to want to change it. Yellow is such a cheerful color. I agree that just using pops of yellow, with pillows, flowers, maybe a single accent piece, might be the trick.

  8. What room were you thinking of adding yellow to - living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom or bedroom? If you like bright yellow, you could start small such as with pillows or a blanket or accessories. A kitchen or a guest room always looks nice in a soft, buttery yellow. Whatever you decide to do, be sure to blog about it so we can see! :-)

  9. These inspiration pics are gorgeous starting points. If you want to kind of ease into it though, maybe do a bedroom in soft butter tones first and then add more intense color if you like it.

  11. I love yellow too it is so bright and happy. We have a few pieces of art on the walls as well as vases that are yellow to add some pops of color over the grey walls. It looks really good.

  12. Hi Jemma,

Charmingly cheery collage! Well, our entire house is painted in a very soft buttery yellow, it's so pale that it acts as a neutral. Mustard yellow is one of my accent colours, especially in my kitchen, with all the little knickknacks on the open shelving and lastly, it also makes an appearance in the sun room/autumn room/tv room, as part of a tulip fabric on the sofa! I can't get enough of this most happy hue!
