DIY~Pom Pom Winter Wreath

November 17, 2015
I have been thinking about making a Pom-Pom wreath for at least a year, maybe even

more, but I have always talked myself out of doing so.

But not this year, in fact I turned up the Christmas music, lit my Christmas candle and set to

work to make this DIY Pom-Pom Winter Wreath.

Winter-Craft-Wreath-Pompom-athomewithjemma

You know I like this wreath because it reminds me of...

snow,

snowflakes,

snow balls, which then of course,

leads us to snowmen, which I always, always loved to make when I was a child.

But this is another story that I will share when we get closer to Christmas.

So here we go, just imagine a light dusting of snow, hot cocoa steaming on your craft table

and you and I about to begin this wonderful craft project.

Now, you know this pom-pom wreath could be made out of any color of yarn, so if you

want color, then seize the moment and do it!

But since I wanted to keep the look crisp, light, and reflecting frosty Winter

mornings and snowy afternoons, I used white.

For more Winter White Inspiration hop on over to my Metallic and White Christmas Mantle

The directions are below, and very easy to follow.

DIY~Pom-Pom Winter Wreath

 1 Large and 1 medium pom-pom maker

  1.  Simply Soft acrylic yarn: white.
  2.  Flat white florists wreath (in the diameter of your choice)
  3.  Hot-glue gun and glue sticks or fabric glue.
  4.  Pom-pom trim
  5.  Decorative Ribbon (for hanging wreath)
  6.  Sharp scissors

Instructions For DIY Pom-Pom Winter Wreath

I have included a Youtube Video for instructions on how to use the pom-pom maker.

These little pom-pom gadgets are amazing to use and the pom-poms work up very quickly.

  • Make enough pom-poms to cover the front of the wreath form.
  •  (I made 3 sizes, I trimmed some of the pom-poms to make them smaller)
  • After all my pom-poms were made I "shaped," them because I wanted a uniform look.
  • Glue pom-poms to wreath form using fabric glue or hot-glue gun, alternating sizes.
  • Glue one end of the pom-pom trim to the back of the wreath form, and wind the trim around
  • the wreath, filling spaces between the larger pom-poms.
  • Glue trim end to back of the wreath.

The video is only about 4 minutes long, and if you haven't used a pom-pom maker

before, I highly recommend watching it.

Now, I am a little obsessed with making pom-poms, I will not lie.

So in my next post I  will be embellishing pillows with handmade pom-poms...wink...

xoxo

  1. YOU DID IT!!!!!!! HERE IT IS! And, yes, it does have a frosty sense to it! Jemma, I am on board with you but I took a slightly different route; I went to Michael's craft and got an inexpensive straw wreath since it will be completely covered up with COFFEE FILTERS! Now, I love all things white, and I too wanted a frosty white look. However, I pinned a coffee filter wreath that was made with natural color filters. So off I went to the market and now I'm set....except, I wonder WHEN I'll have time! I hope to do as you did, to enjoy making it by the lilt of soft Christmas music and loads of hot, delicious Christmas. And I can't wait to talk to you again.....I don't know my afterschool schedule today, but maybe a quick email to check in on our ideas. Back later my friend! Love this....

I have a gorgeous white coffee filter wreath that my youngest daughter made for me. Coffee filter wreaths are a stunning addition to the home and will fit in beautifully with your decorating style!

  2. Oh Jemma, this is so pretty! The snowball wreath you've created is something everyone will love. I love watching snow fall and I love snowmen! This winter, I will find out how much I like removing it from sidewalks and driveways with my new snowblower!

  4. I love the white snowy fluffiness of this wreath Jemma! It's adorable. The sweet pink mittens add a nice touch, but I'd be tempted to embroider a single large snowflake on each mitten! I have three sizes of this same pom pom maker and enjoy making a few pom poms at Christmas time too. Enjoy your day :)

  5. I never knew Pom Pom makers existed! This wreath is so cute, and would look fabulous against a dark door.

I think you'd be proud of me...the other day I decided to put a wreath on our door but it seems like I gave all of our wreaths away when we moved :(. What's a thrifty girl to do? I'll tell you ;). I took a wreath I had made a couple of years ago that was on a table (I was using it as a centerpiece surrounding a vase) in my porch and used that. It's for Fall, not Christmas, but that's what I wanted. It's made out of neutral shades of burlap that are cut into leaf shapes (it's on the blog). Took me FOREVER to make, but now it's finally being seen. lol

  7. Hi Jemma. just love this beautiful soft frosty wintery wreath you created my friend. You are so very talented. I had a few in the works last year using boas and they too looked very snowy. I love the little pom poms around the larger ones here. This inspires so many ideas big and small. I think I'd like one of those pompom makers. Didn't know there was a tool like this. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoying the rain? We had tornadoes circling above through the night. Still raining this morning.
    Have a nice day. xo

  8. Hi Jemma,
I really love your snowball Pom Pom wreath. I think the mixture of the smaller pom poms adds much interest to the wreath of softness and beauty. Antropologie last year sold a White Pom Pom wreath and it was pretty but costly. Who knew there's a Pom Pom maker? Well I sure didn't. I checked the post from last year about your mantel. Gorgeous ideas and décor. I haven't started on Christmas decorations yet been in the basement pickling bead board White for the center area redo. I hope to work with my paper clay later on today.
Ahhh Christmas music let me slip in a CD now as I pickle away! Enjoy your day.

  14. Your pom pom wreath made me smile, Jemma, as I used to be a Cheerleader back in the day and would wave my pom poms around to the beat of the music. Your white wreath is so pretty, and this is actually something I would love in my own home. It's so simple and the cute snowballs make it look so Christmassy. You did a great job, my friend.

  22. The wintery pompom wreath is adorable, Jemma! I made a pompom wreath last year using my favorite Fall colors, and I've made all kinds of little swags with the pompoms. I have that set of pompom makers and find I can mindlessly make a "bunch" of poms while I watch tv with my hubby. Embellishing pillows is really fun, too!

  23. I too havé wanted to make a Pom Pom wreath, and having always plenty of yarn in the house is no excuse to as why for years I have wanted to create one. The Anthropologie Pom Pom wreath is a fortune, many after seeing Michele's Pom Pom wreath over at Lovely Studio, I had even a stronger drive to do so. Do you think that was even a big enough nudge? Nope still now wreath....I am sure this year will get by as well, but it doesn't stop me from admiring and desiring to make one every time I see a blogger make one, now! You included.

It's a wonderful Pom Pom wreath, and I am certain it will add festive beauty, fun, and whimsey to a very Joyeux Noël here in your home this year.
Love the little Pom Pom garland.
