Homemaking

Orange And White Fall Vignette

August 28, 2015
With the house coming along and the weather cooling off just a little,
(you will laugh if I tell you what my reference for cool is-94 degrees)
I developed an overwhelming need to decorate our cute little third story apartment for Fall.

homemaking-fall-white-orange-vignette-decorating-athomewithjemma

So when the Fall decorating bug hit me, I realized I had nothing to decorate with.
Really, how could that be-even though I thought I had brought everything to the apartment that I would need for our stay, I didn't.

Well, it seems if I was going to decorate, then I was going to need to spend some money and I am feeling very thrifty these days.  I feel as though any "extra," change needs to be
saved to go towards some pretties for the new house.
So, my Fall decorating shopping spree had a pretty tight budget.

My Fall decorating shopping spree took me all over the city.
We just recently got a Big Lots, and I wanted to check it out. I love that place.
It was my first time shopping there, and I found some super cute Fall items, plus a couple of greeting cards-I think this may be a secret store to find some different seasonal items.
It was so well organized and everything was in it's place, I was impressed with the cleanliness and friendly staff.

Next up was my favorite store Hobby Lobby, we all love that store, don't we?  But you know I felt that their selection of Fall items, was not quite as good as last year, I am wondering if it is because they have their Christmas out too, and have dedicated more space to that, just wondering if you feel that way too.

My next stop was Jo- Ann Fabric, they seem to have such a miscellaneous selection of
fabric, crafts and seasonal that I always feel as though I have walked into an old Five & Dime store.  I typically only shop there if I am in a browsing sort of mood, they usually have a neat little 75% off aisle too-always fun to see what they have.
I love finding deals on decorating items-it is a fun feeling!

My final stop was T.J. Maxx, they had a few things out, but I couldn't seem to find anything that would fit in with my Orange and White Vignette, so I left feeling a little disappointed.
I suppose, it is always a bit of a hit and miss sort of shopping trip there anyways.

Have you started decorating for Fall?

Have a lovely weekend!

xoxo

    1. Well let me say, I enjoyed the journey to find them as much as the decorating-I just love a good deal! I love Christmas, but I sure wish Hobby Lobby had designated a few more shelves to Fall.

  4. I love your spirit Jemma!! It's the LITTLE things that matter and you don't need to get all fancy to get into the seasonal mode;) Your vignette is so much fun! I will put fall things up the first week of October and I can't wait because LAST YEAR I was knee deep in house construction. We thought we'd be finished by FALL so I dreamt about all the fun I'd have putting pumpkins everywhere. When THAT didn't happen as planned, I started thinking about Thanksgiving. As it turns out, we BARLEY had our kitchen done for our TG festivities. It was very stressful! Anyway, you've got a great attitude and living in an apartment is the way to go. We stayed IN the house as it was "deconstructed" and then systematically rebuilt over the course of a year ..plus. Happy FRIDAY! xxleslie

    1. Good Morning Leslie!
Well, my spirit and your spirit is what seems to get us through all the changes that life throws at us! We have both been pretty happy spirits for the past three years, that we have known one another! I so enjoyed watching the progress of your gorgeous home last year, and from this side of the process it looked so effortless and exciting, Now I know how different it is from this side! Lol! I love your home and oh that marble...that is my dream too, in fact looking at tile, granite and marble in the next couple of weeks.
      Happy Saturday to you Leslie!

  5. You found some cute things. I too felt like Hobby Lobby didn't have all that much going on in the fall department. They seem to carry over a few things from year to year too. I've picked up some new things for fall but still haven't put it out yet. I found some nice fall garland at Michael's on sale so I bought early. Every store is loaded up with something for fall right now so the pickin's are good! We are all miserable if it gets up to 95 and you are calling it a cool down! LOL... We've been in the low 70's for a few days and I love it. September is always a nice month here so I will enjoy every day as it comes.

    1. Liz,
As I was reading the comments, the consensus is that Hobby Lobby is falling short in the Fall decorating department. I wish they would stop this and let the seasons live out their duration.

Well, I know it's absurd that 95 is cool- I would love to experience a real Fall;)
      Thanks for your visit!

  6. Your vignette is very sweet! Love all the patterns and textures you mixed, staying with two colors. I have not started decorating for Fall....I try not to till Oct. 1. I did take out my Jim Shore pumpkin, thinking I want to sell my whole collection of his, but I put it on top of my cupboard and there it stayed. Does that count?!

    1. Hi Sandie,
I LOVE this time of the year too-you and I are Southern dwellers and we sort of how to fake Fall, although you do have gorgeous Trees and a change of color more than we do. Living in the plains is sort of the pits from August thru October and then it shapes up and is very nice!

  8. I felt the same way when I visited Hobby Lobby the other day. I know it happens every year, but seriously, why must we see Christmas stuff in August?

The temps are dropping here and it does indeed feel like Fall has arrived, so I guess I'm starting to think about decorating for Fall (although I don't do much).

You managed to put together an adorable vignette Jemma, budget friendly or not!

Hobby Lobby needs to shape up, they would still make money and make their customers happier.
I will always shop at Hobby Lobby because they consistently have a good selection and the quality of their products is descent.
I just know your temps are cooling off so nicely and now you can enjoy that new fire pit even more!
Thanks so much for your visit-

a beautiful time of the year.

  13. Jemma, this is my first Fall post I'm reading, and loving every bit of it. You have mentioned all my favorite shops on here. You know, my sister first introduced me to Big Lots when our kids were little, and we used to go there all the time. I actually just went there yesterday hehehe. They do have cute stuff for the seasons. I really like that fabric pumpkin, and the polka dot pumpkin is cool. I'm so glad to hear you are still decorating even though you are in between homes. You are such an inspiration to me, my dear friend.

  17. Good morning dearest new and fabulous friend! I must email you to tell you about my week, but first of all, FALL! 94 degrees IS cool after what you've experienced! And that is good, if the temperatures continue to dip to get you to a comfortable 75-80....you'll love it!

Well my dear, school officially starts on Monday and we may have a few days or maybe two weeks of warmer weather, but then if all goes according to Minnesota's tendency to be on the colder side, we should really feel like fall around mid to late September. The trees are already starting to turn color!

I CAN'T WAIT TO DECORATE FOR FALL! Yes, I love this time of year and though it's short for us, what we do have is spectacular. I LOVE your orange and white, a different take that orange and black! And I bet you are just seeing so much progress on the house! OK, back in email. HUGS!

  18. Fall colors are not my favorites, but I do bring in a little orange as a nod to the season. But not until September, for sure. Summers are short here and this one has been so lovely that I hate to see it go. I do love the fall season, though, the cozy evenings with darkness falling earlier, warm soups, and life centering about home rather than beach or vacation. Your budget decorating ideas are lovely.

    1. Lorrie,
I so understand your quest to hold on to the Summer Season, growing up in Idaho, we were not rushing Fall in either. The last days of Summer were always relinquished with much hesitation.
Sounds as though orange is one of your favorite colors to incorporate too.
      Thanks so much!

  19. That is such a lovely vignette, Jemma! I typically start decorating the first week of September, and we would be lucky to see single digits by then. It's my way of "dealing" with the rest of our Summer.....lol! I'm hoping during my next "rest week," I'll feel like doing a modified version of what I usually do. Fall is my favorite season, so I really don't mind being surrounded by my little treasures and the colors for almost three months. While I love the traditional colors of Fall, I have started adding in some of my favorite color, turquoise, to the mix......turquoise, orange and black -- makes me giddy just thinking about it!

  20. Your vignette is so festive! I went out for a bit this afternoon and came back almost empty handed. I was so disappointed not finding anything that I decided to make cookies! I haven't been in a hobby lobby though we found one on the way to RI but it was a Sunday and they were closed. I am not familiar with big lots either and didn't know they carried craft supplies. Most of these kinds of stores are almost 2 hrs away. :( we have a Joanne's and a Michaels. Think I will make a few fabric pumpkins tomorrow. Your lovely orange and white display has inspired me to get crackin! Thanks Jemma!

Fabric pumpkins-you are just so talented with your handcrafted projects. Wondering if you will be selling any in your etsy shop...
Hobby Lobby is huge in Texas and Oklahoma, in fact their headquarters is in Oklahoma.
Big Lots, had some cute little nick nacky type things-not any craft supplies, but with Hobby Lobby running so short on Fall decorations, I was feeling a little desperate.
      Thanks for visiting me too!
