Vintage Style Mother's Day On Our Patio

May 06, 2020
Welcome to our vintage style Mother's Day on our patio and also Happy Mother's Day Week!
Today's post is all about celebrating the art of homemaking and remembering Mom and Grandma through their love of china and collectibles.
Preserving a collection is preserving History, an era, a thought, a moment, an event.
I loved preparing and photographing this post because it's all about celebrating women and the difference that my Mom and Grandma made and continue to make in my life.
In between all of this celebration of  life, we will be talking about being blessed and figuring out where these collectibles and china came from!
This Wedding China is my Grandmother's and is 100 years old.
I know I had the best Mother in the world and I just bet you do too!

God blessed you and I with the perfect Mom.

Proverbs 31:25: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."

Mom and I were best friends, all throughout her life.
Naturally we did not see eye to eye on everything but we never allowed a difference of opinion to get in the way of our friendship nor blight our love for one another.

3 John 1:4: "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."

When I was a kid, she was a kid with me, when I was an awkward teen, she tirelessly helped me to navigate through the dilemmas of school clicks, boyfriends and what to wear.
In fact she sewed up some mighty fine outfits for me too!

It seems to me I ever quite realized what a remarkable woman Mom truly was until I was in my 50's.
I knew she was a terrific Mom, but being a remarkable woman is another layer of humanity and sometimes it takes a heap of living to truly see Mom as a person.

I have had more time to ponder all of this living business,  because of our stay at home order.
I know now that I didn’t quite get my Mom as much as I thought I did, even though she totally got me.

So, if  your Mom and Grandmother are still living give them a call and let them know how much you love them, it will mean the world to them.

This is one beauty of a Porcelain Pitcher and I'd love for someone to tell me what it is.
Is it a teapot, coffeepot, or....
I do know that it is numbered 195/1723 and is imprinted with the number 317.

I remember this Porcelain Pitcher sitting on white open shelving above Mom's white porcelain kitchen sink and Mom putting her loose change in it.
I cannot believe it was never broken.

Mom loved this Japanese Tidas Cobalt blue vase she was so proud of her purchase.
I have researched this style of Vase and seems there were a ton of them made!
It is not worth much in dollars, but it's worth a ton in fond memories of Mom's delight.
It now sits in my home and I am proud of it too!

This is my Grandmother's Wedding China, there are no replacements pieces to be found.
Charm House China and the pattern is Cinnamon Tree, it went from Grandma's Wedding china to our special Sunday china that we used after Church.

This little porcelain figurine of a man and a woman under the cloche is dated 1945 and also was my Grandmother's, I am speculating here, but I think she may have given this to my Mom as a belated Wedding gift.

  5. Jemma, what a beautiful Mother's Day post. I liked every bit of it, especially hearing about the old china and the treasures that belonged to your Mom and Grandmother. The Cobalt blue vase is gorgeous, and it's a wonder how all these items were not broken throughout the years. I also have some old treasured items and wonder the same thing. ; ) Your purple flowers are perfect for a Mother's Day table. And the man and woman under the cloche that belonged to your Grandmother is very special. It sounds like you cherished your Mother and had a close relationship with her. Jemma, I had a wonderful Mother too, and the older I get, the more I think about all the little and big things she did to make her family feel loved and secure and cozy at home. Well, your Mother raised a beautiful daughter, who gives so much of herself to others. This is such a thoughtful post to honor our Mothers on this very special day.

  6. This is lovely Jemma! And no, everything I am I do NOT owe to my mother. LOL! We are nothing alike, have totally different values etc. At least she birthed me. Or did she?

  8. I think the pot is a chocolate pot. Chocolate was served as a hot drink before they figured out chocolate bars. People needed their chocolate. I love the china. I'm so sorry you can't find replacements. I love this wonderful tribute to your mom and all moms. Happy Mother's Day.

  12. My friend this is a most beautiful post! Your words are so true and meaningful, love the scriptures and quotes. The china is so pretty and such a treasured keepsake. The porcelain pitcher is stunning, I think it is too tall to be considered for tea, perhaps coffee. I would say however you wish to use it will be perfect I am wishing you a lovely Mother’s Day and weekend♥️
