Jemma's Tales

Postcard From Jemma

May 05, 2019
Hello Folks, It's been awhile since we chatted and I hope this finds you all well. Today I am sending you postcards from Colorado, Texas and Puerto Rico from my new blog layout on Blogger! I am thrilled to have migrated from WordPress to blogger with the professional, kind and smart know-how of Rebekah Samuel( Lady Gadget, and her worker bee Team.) A BIG thank you goes out to Rebekah and Cyball for this extensive transformation. Now that I am back in my comfort zone on blogger my intention is to be writing more frequently and sharing my gardening, real estate, cooking, traveling and DIY projects with you all.

Winter in Colorado is nearly a distant memory while Spring is inviting us to enjoy warm weather and patio dining. I had forgotten that Spring in the West arrives like a tired locomotive laboring up a steep incline...so, so slowly. I have actually worn shorts one day and a parka the next, naughty Colorado teasing us all like this!

I am wondering what you have all been up to and if your weather is as up and down as ours. My friend (Sandy) told me that her Father believes that Planet Earth has moved ever so slightly off of her axis and that is why the weather seems to have gone bonkers in so many regions of our beautiful country...what do you think?

I have made a couple of trips to see my daughters, son and my grands since we last visited and naturally it did my heart good. There is nothing in this world as sweet and wonderful as a good dose of family time. Family is the elixr of life!

Living in the Springs, Denver area gives me easy access to two airports, so there are many flights and reasonable fares available and that makes traveling so much easier.

Our family is expanding, the grands are growing and I am sliding into the realm of living my best life as a 60 year old, well actually 62.

I have to say that 60 has caught me off guard a bit, 50 was no biggie, but this decade just feels different. I feel as though there is a disconnect to the woman I see in the mirror and the soul of the woman that lives in this 60 year old framework. One of the many physical changes that drives me mad is my hair. If you've been reading At Home With Jemma for awhile you know that my hair color has gone from brown, to blonde to white. Well, here I am again, having gone full circle back to white/blonde again...the struggle is real my friends.

Seems I want to grab more of each moment in each day and never let it go and live it more intentionally than ever before. Loving the philosophy of this gal; Brene Brown. Are you familiar with her? “Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.” ~ Brene Brown

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.” ~ Brene Brown

“The willingness to show up changes us, It makes us a little braver each time.” ~ Brene Brown

“To love ourselves and support each other in the process of becoming real is perhaps the greatest single act of daring greatly.” ~ Brene Brown

Up next I will be sharing the beginning of our Kitchen makeover and some useful and practical tips on how to take stained cabinets to white.

  1. Good morning Jemma,
First your blog looks amazing! I need to do some reconstruction on my blog too. Just haven't had the time. I hope to be able to work on it soon.

You have certainly had some quality time and made many memories with your beautiful and expanding family! Everyone always looks so happy in your photos!

I hear you with the hair thing, (i am thinking about going gray) and the 60 thing (I'd rather think about anything else).....turning that number in July myself. Really not crazy about it at all. I will refer to you for advice and inspiration, if you don't mind!

Hope you had a nice weekend! Have a lovely week! xx Linda

  4. Welcome back, Jemma! I like your new blog layout and postcards from your recent whereabouts.

I have only blogged a few posts so far this year, trying to finish up a huge life project - downsizing! We have decreased living & storage by more than 50% and it's about to do me in! I'm hoping to read more and write too in the coming weeks, but first, a much-needed vacation!

  6. I love your new look, Jemma. It's beautiful and so clean! The photos, of course, are terrific! You are inspiring me to freshen up -- it's been more than a few years!

It looks like you've been a travelin' gal -- and isn't that the best when the littles are part of it all -- though some aren't so little, just lovely!

A friend has telling me about Brene Brown and now you. She's on my netflix watch list!

  7. If I were you I'd stub my nose at being in my sixties. You make it look good :). Living and loving life!

I love your new look but I can't comment with safari :(. I just left one but it didn't take and had to sign into google and get onto chrome. Ugh. Why does google make everything so hard??

Beautiful family Jemma, but you already know that. You are so blessed.

  8. Love your post today Jemma. I am 6l this year and I feel the same way. The 50's were easy peasy and now it seems like since I hit 60 everything is going in a different direction for me too!!!! My hair has always been blonde but now I am seeing more and more white too. If it would cover my whole head it would be pretty but nope only in the front so I have to keep coloring. Also my knees hurt and my body seems tired lately. More effort to get myself going some days. I am glad the weather is changing for us so I can get out and hopefully start walking again. It was a long winter. Glad you are settling in your new home in Colorado. I am glad you changed over to blogger too. I think you will find it easier than word press. I will look forward to seeing you post again. Big hugs.

  9. Your blog looks so lovely, Jemma, and I enjoyed seeing your vacation and family photos. You have a beautiful family!

I am so curious as to how you are transforming your Colorado home as mine looks similar to yours in that it was built in the 19190's and has the light "yellow" oak trim doors and cabinets. Truthfully, that does not bother me, but I know it is thought of as dated, and I'd like to see how your house is transformed by paint.

I never left Blogspot in all my years of blogging, and never will. I also never used a professional designer to update my blog, so it looks handmade vintage, but that's OK I hope! Blogging is so different these days and blog tech is so confusing and overwhelming. That's why I just plod along with my old format....it is like putting on comfortable old jeans!

  10. Oh Jemma, that first photo DOES look like a post card! What a cute picture of you by the Pink bus, and a sweet one of you with the grandchildren and the mountains in the distance. Your kitchen looks wonderful with the white cabinets. I used to have white cabinets at our old home, and I really liked them. It sounds like Spring is finally starting to come alive in Colorado.

Happy Mother's Day, Jemma. May you have a beautiful day filled with so much love.

  12. I'm so grateful to see how happy you are with our work for the migration tasks. My favorite photo is the 'Bikini Bus' one. I wish to look so good and blessed like you when I reach the 60s. Greetings, Cyball
