Angles Attic
A Grandmother's Rocker
April 21, 2015
This was a Grandmother's Rocker, a rocker that sat on a Texas porch.
Creaking as it swayed, wobbling as it is rickety- in the soft, sunny and humid days of
a steamy Texas afternoon.
I found this treasure at Angels Attic, a mission store that our Church operates in our community.
I volunteer here a few times a month, in the Furniture Hospital, and on this particular morning I was
greeted with an extra dose of cheerfulness.
"Good Morning," various volunteers chortled as I walked to the back of the store.
"Something great, just came in and you are going to love it."
And I did the very moment I saw it.
My volunteer friends know me well, I am becoming known as the "Stuff Collector."
You know how some people are known as the crazy cat lady.
You get the picture....
Anyway, whenever you spend a few hours or a day volunteering , you are sure to enjoy the
fellowship from the various personalities of the ladies who work here.
Always a tale to share, mixed together with merry laughter, and always a positive attitude.
So you see, Angels Attic is a service not to just the community but to it's volunteers as well.
It seems as though I rarely leave, without a treasure, last July I found this Wicker Suitcase,
at Angels Attic.
I am leaving this rocker just as worn, just as chippy, just as is,
well except for tightening some bolts, because, well it is perfect "sold as is."

What a great chair, I am sure it has lots of great stories too. I love the color, glad it found a new home.. Have a happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteDear Jemma,
ReplyDeleteThis is a most special rocker. I love it all - the color, the aged look, and the fact that it belonged to a grandma who rocked her kids in that very same spot. I was just thinking the other day about the rocking chair that I had when my kids were small. It was a wicker chair that I ended up giving away through the years. The leg was a bit wobbly, but how I wish I had kept it. It's so nice that you volunteer a few times a month through your church. I did that several years ago and was thinking of getting back to it. The volunteer work is such a great thing you are doing.
I love these pictures, Jemma, and the red hat hanging really adds a special touch to the pictures. What a special post this is for sure........and what a treasured chair.
love, ~Sheri
It's very pretty, and I love the color!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful old chair...just the perfect size and 'chippiness'! You will enjoy it for years to come! And give it some more memories! Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI love the name of the agency - Angel's Attic - and you volunteer there - perfect. I love that chair too. Looks like something you would love.
ReplyDeleteFabulous find! We may have to shop there together one day to scour for more treasures for my house! I love the rocker!
ReplyDeleteNow that's the kind of distressed I like. One that is simply old and worn.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I'm glad this old rocker found a good home! You've made it all inviting with those plump cushions, and I just love that aqua colour. Great find!

Jemma,
ReplyDeleteThis little chair is delightful! It really is perfect in its chippiness and the color is so cheerful! Sold as is and sure to please on a summer afternoon! What a find!

Hi Jemma! What a sweet rocker and what a sweet post. If only your new/old rocker could tell you some stories.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I'm with Brenda on this one, You scored big time Jemma. I think when we volunteer, we get far more than we give.
ReplyDeleteThat chair is fabulous! Oh the stories that it could tell and I'm sure you've already let your imagination run free when sitting in it. No one today could copy that color and distressed quality and come close.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it many days, Jemma!
What a lovely well loved porch rocker...and it's in my favorite color, too!
ReplyDeletePerfect, Jemma. And I'm so glad for you. Susan
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that chair reminds me of the one my grandmother sat in by her window watching the world go by... so long ago.
ReplyDeleteHow fun is this Jemma! The stuff collector, heh...I love it. You are just the best person to save this wonderful chair. It has found a good home!
ReplyDeleteIt IS perfect, Jemma. I love the look and you have made it fresh with your accessories! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteYour chair is beautiful! Love it! It's so good to find a place to laugh, smile, work and share conversation with others...you're blessed.
ReplyDeleteLove, and the red hat looks perfect with it, one of my favorite color combos.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, my friend.
PS-Save you some "pastelitos de guayaba" (guava pastries) next time I have some. :)
I love your Rocker and I am so happy you were able to be the one to get it. You will appreciate all its beauty.
ReplyDeleteThank you dear one for popping in to see me and have a beautiful weekend.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
It's beautifully chic and chipped and charming, Jemma, and it suits its pretty owner, who, I'm certain, in that stylish red hat, is the picture of loveliness!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing space and name, 'Furniture Hospital', to take care of these pieces in transition, until they are once again in the hands of someone who will love and cherish them. It must be so much fun to work with like-minded ladies; you are blessed!
Have a wonderful week, my friend.
xoxo
