Jemma's Tales

Fabric, Friends and A Sewing Project

January 13, 2016
Is there anything better in the world besides fabulous fabric, friends and a sewing project?
Truly there is not except, perhaps a good book, a great pair of high heels and chocolate...

Well, there was not going to be any sewing projects in this house until I found my sewing machine.
I had hunted high and low for her and naturally she was in one of the very last boxes to get unpacked.

I am not really a true sewing sort of person, I struggle with proper measuring and following directions.
In fact, I made a cute table runner that required not a single stitch- DIY-no sew table runner.

I think I like to sew out of the lines, and that does not make for a straight seam.
But I can put together some simple straight stitches and create a few interesting projects.

I would like to be a more competent seamstress...as many of you lovely ladies are.
I marvel, coo and drool when I see the things you sew, you are amazing and inspire me!

So, I will start out with small, simple projects and see where they will lead me.

I was recently inspired by a lovely and energetic friend who is launching her own line of fabric and she just happened to be in the DFW area.

You just might know this bubbly, delightful, warm, talented and hardworking, sweet blogger,
Kari Anne from Thistlewood Farms.

She was launching her fabulous new collection of fabric at the The Quilt Asylum, in McKinney Texas last week.

There was no way that I was going to miss this launch, so, I hopped in my SUV and headed to McKinney, it is about an hour from Rockwall.

The ladies at the Quilt Asylum were terrific and made everyone feel so welcome.

The launch was amazing, with a very large turn out and I also had the pleasure of meeting
Kari Anne's sister and Bee from Windgate Lane,  another lovely blogger who lives in Plano.

The Simply Eclectic fabric line is incredible, beautiful rich colors and perfect patterns.
These are the pieces of fabric which I purchased, but there are so many more choices.

I have an idea hatching in my mind, and I am not quite sure what direction it will take me,
but I hope to have it all completed within the week, to share with you.

I am so looking forward to this Friday as I am having lunch with two more blogging gals.
Such a treat for me to have this opportunity to connect with many of you talented, articulate, vivacious and creative ladies.

For me it is all about embracing, supporting and uplifting one another and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to meet as many of you as I can!

To my dear and precious readers and comrades in blogging you are amazing!

Let's make 2016 rock!

Wishing you a beautiful Wednesday!
xxoxo

I wish her the best of luck, you were super sweet to go out and support her. 9. Looks like you are fixing to have some fun with some beautiful fabric. Can't wait for you to share with us what you make! I take sewing by spells and I am not very good at it! I play around with it and then I get tired of playing and go onto another project! That's my problem....I get to many things going at once. Ha! Hope you enjoy your lunch with blogging friends. Looking forward to this brand new year sharing it with friends and family...such as you! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  11. Jemma,
Last January I purchased a new sewing machine, a Brothers that I love. A necessary purchase since I burnt out my old Singer sewing Cat Nip toys in wool felt stuffed with cat nip. Yeah I know ... bad choice of sewing project for a machine. But hey cats were happy! So now I sew my statement pillows that I make and decorative things and buy cat toys!

Oh the projects and fun you are about to embark on. Enjoy putting your foot to the metal and sew away.
    xoxo,
    Vera

  14. So many beautiful fabrics! It's always fun to get inspiration from a new line and I'll definitely check out Kari Anne's new fabrics. My sewing room is a true disaster after the holidays...I need to spend time organizing. One day! Glad that you found your machine- I'm no seamstress, either, but I really enjoy creating. As long as you love what you are doing, it will be wonderful! xo, Tina

  16. Oh Yes, fabric and sewing are delightful, and makes me think of my sweet mom who sewed all my clothes growing up. It's nice that you are getting back to sewing, Jemma. I can sew simple things, but won't even look at the patterns haha. wow, you've met several of your blog friends! I've met only one, and we lived in the same town. She owned a vintage shop and I used to go in there all the time.

Keep sewing, Jemma. I can't wait to see what you make. :)

Yes, Kerriann is a very lovely woman.
I have a tub in my bedroom with many projects to get started on, but I just don't have the energy this soon after Christmas. But, hopefully I'll get into the swing soon.
    Happy sewing....
