Decorating Blue Bedrooms

March 11, 2013
We love our new paint color in our upstairs bedrooms.  We chose

blue. You can do so much with blue-it is such a forgiving

color-blends, melds and compliments so many other tones

prints, and vignettes.

Afternoon naps are best taken in this sun-kissed soft blue

bedroom , with billowy cotton curtains and brown toile linen.

Brown and blue are such a soothing combination.

This little accent table was a dowdy brown at one time-from

Bombay company.  Immediate update - a coat of blue paint.

For a Spring update, I put away the toile and bring out the color.

I am changing my warm brown for winter to brighter with just a

hint of nautical.  Isn't this quilt incredible-almost a chevron print

hand-quilted from Mom.

Gallery wall with treasured hand embroidered linens from

25 years ago. very well preserved from resting in a cedar chest.

Future post on this DIY project.

Blue walls, upholstery nail-head headboard and accent pillows-a

Red Door exclusive.

  2. I do love blue for the bedroom. Our bedroom is blue and I love the morning sunlight that comes in, especially in the summer.
    Your decorating skills are wonderful.
Can't wait to hear more about the framed handwork!

  3. Lovely, Jemma. Blue is so restful. My bedroom is in blues and creams. I do switch out a mostly blue quilt for a sunny yellow and blue in spring and summer. I do need to repaint the walls, though. I'm hoping to get to those later this summer, after a bit of drywall work, and French doors to replace the aging slider to the deck. We'll see how far we get this summer.

  4. Love blue walls in bedrooms. Our master bedroom walls are blue, but a little too bright. I need to tone it down to a softer shade. I love your red chevron quilt that your mom made; so pretty and cheerful.

  5. Hi Jenna...I agree. Blue is such a soothing peaceful color to surround yourself with for a nice nap. I am a RED lover but our master bedroom is a soft baby blue. It's called Stratosphere...and is like the sky. We even had the ceiling painted that color.
Your blog is a pleasure to visit. Thanks so much for popping in and for your kind comment.

  9. I totally love the hand-quilted chevron print bedding. Your mom is a pretty good quilter. This chevron print is quilted pretty nicely. It must have taken her some time to finish this work. It’s absolutely perfect to brighten up winter days. ->Yon Vann
